Ledger and chore list, 1852-1868.

Account book, 1852 Oct. 7-1853 Oct. 16, and chore list, 1862 June 16-1868 Sept. 23, kept by the proprietors of a pharmacy located in Alexandria, Virginia. Account book contains daily sales of goods from the store recorded by store owner John Leadbeater, including the names of purchasers and lists of purchases. The chore or "work to do" lists, kept by John Leadbeater's son Edward Stabler Leadbeater, contain a chronological listing of tasks to be completed in the daily operation and maintenance of the store, including preparation of medicinal oils, cordials, pills, powders, syrups, and plasters; as well as ordering supplies; pricing, bottling, and shelving stock; making payments and billing customers; making repairs; etc.

Pharmacy established in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1792 by Quaker pharmacist Edward Stabler. Following the death of Edward's son, ownership of the business passed to his son-in-law, John Leadbeater, who continued to operate the business with his son, Edward Stabler Leadbeater.
